I have been reading about the use of a plenum over the top of the engine to give a better cooling seal. I am just wondering if there is really that much of an advantage. My bird just uses the upper cowling with the blue silicone gaskets on the baffling. The lower front seals against the lower cowl the same way. The oil cooler is mounted on the lower baffling just ahead of the front cylinder.
With this arrangement both CHT and Oil temps are very good.
With the tightness of the Lancair cowl in my opinion a seperate plenum over the top is overkill.
Thank for the good discussion and infromation
