Only partially kidding, Jack.  We used 80% rpm with speedbrakes deployed,
which yielded zero thrust, but the only time we intentionally shut the
engine down was during zoom maneuvers.  And yes, the runway at Edwards is
15,000 feet long.  The longest is actually 7 miles, but that one isn't
paved.  Sounds difficult, but it really isn't that hard.  I'd say it's easier than
"greasing" a 320 landing with the rubber donuts.
