I have the S I R S compass in my L 4P and the vertical card compass in my A36. To me the Vert. Card gets more influence form other metal and radios and requires shields or even the Magnetic Balls in some cases to get the errors out. I mounted the SIRS into my all metal panel in the L4P (see picture) but I must admit that I have never adjusted it yet. It seems to be off about 15* going south and right on east/west.
When I started on my panel I wanted a Card compass because of my experience in the other airplane but I didn't want it on the top of the panel sun shade. I took a gamble on putting in the panel and I couldn't use there provided panel mount so as you can see I used the Windshield Mount SIRS model and removed all the mounting stuff. I cut a special hole in the metal that goes around the corner on the bottom. This allows the Light to hang out the bottom and the face comes through the hole in front. It is held forward with a small piece of rubber hose. Works fine and will be better when I calibrate it. I like the viewing angle and it is very stable like a card compass. When lite it is beautiful. Admittedly I don't look at it much.
