About 3 inches if I remember right. Anyway, there just wasnt enought room for two armrests so I just installed one. When I had my seats upholstered, I visited our friendly wrecking yard and found an armrest out of a van that had the size and shape I wanted. Then I had it welded on to the left side of the copilots seat so that it lives above the emergency hydraulic pump handle and then rotates up between the seats when not in use. In the 50 hours we flew our machine, I found that I used it mostly to rest my throttle hand. The copilot didnt seem to use it at all(maybe I was just bigger). I certainly recommend one, tho.
