Yes, my exhaust tailpipes have been supported from
an AL angle that extends back from the bottom of the sump.  I have a piece
of flexible material about 1 3/4 in. long between each tailpipe and the AL
angle support.  Maybe that's where my problem is.

Byron,

I have an O-320 whose standard exhaust is only held to the engine by the exhaust port bolts. 4 inches from the back end of the pipes I have rapped them with an insulator tape and put a "C" clamp around them.

My engine now has 850 hours, has been flying since 1992 and has no exhaust pipe cracks.

I will send you pictures the next time that I have my cowling off.
