Brian, the DO-160D testing can reveal a lot of problems that are in
fact real world problems. Yes... there are some things in there that are
un-realistic (18 gHz at 200volts/meter) but there is a lot that is
significant for people in simple airplanes.
For example, on a recent circuit board design, we put the board on the
shaker table - - and at very modest levels of vibration, found a resonant
frequency and manageed to pop a power supply filter off the board in about
10 seconds. A single re-design and we fixed that problem. You really don't want that to happen on a dark and rainy night when you
happen to park the RPM at 2373.5 RPM for a few seconds. Regards, George
