Ive been reading this discussion and im really confused. Can anyone say that a legacy will go slower with more horsepower? That's what i get from claims that a supercharger slows you down. The supercharger that I have takes 12 horsepower to run so to get the same take off performance at sea level I just dial up 12 more horse power and wa la sea level performance. Because my cowling is stock there is a limit to how much horse power I can cool, also the engine has some limits as to ultimate power and these must be observed. Lets now go to denver I can use sea level power can you ?
will my take off be shorter.Lets cruise at 10000 ft I can use sea level power can you? Now there is no free lunch. Power takes fuel and makes heat. With a stock cowl at 15000 ft Im a lot faster but I run a little hotter as the air is thinner and I will still be burning the fuel required to make power. I wanted to know just how much faster I was and just how the fuel burn compared to a normal burn and cruise speed.these results were published at the settings I usually run . Does anyone think that at some mixture setting these results are going to change radically. True at 50 rop you’ll go faster weather supercharged or not but no one can seriously think that by cleaver mix control you can overcome 100 horse power.
