The ROP, the peak internal cylinder pressures are rather high, unless the fuel flow is up at 33 gph or so. 70F LOP, 30" with 8.5:1 and reasonable timing (22d comes to mind) is very nice in terms of the internal cylinder pressures. Even 31, or 32, or 33" while LOP with 8.5:1 and 22d timing is OK - - but not ROP unless the mixture is VERY VERY ROP. If the engines were 7.5:1 compression ratios, then you can add about 3" to the above, but it is not correct to assert that these engines are just "loafing" along at 30" when they have 8.5:1 compression ratios.
