The 3.2K to 4.0 update involves both hardware and software updates that allow what is essentially the certified code base to run on the experimental IDU.

If you are having problems with intermittent dimming then it is likely a hardware problem. I recommend that you contact CFS customer service in BOI for more information. You will likely have to return the display to them for diagnostics and repair.

"Screen Blanking" occurs when the watchdog bites. The hardware watchdog is an independent circuit that initiates a system wide reset if it does not receive periodic signals from the main processor. The idea is that if the processor spends too much time doing something (or hangs) then it is assumed that something is wrong and a system wide reset is issued. Watchdog resets should occur infrequently at the worst. If they are happening often enough to be annoying then the underlying cause should be found and remedied. Contact CFS Customer Service in BOI for  more information.

The FAA is very sensitive to the possibility of incorrect information being displayed so the watchdog is set to be very sensitive to insure that no "Bad" information gets out.

If both (or all) displays blank at the same time then the main power to the system has been interrupted.  The IDU is rated for input voltages between 9 and 32 VDC and will tolerate excursions above and below (including reverse current) without damage. If the supplied voltage browns down to below ~8.5 VDC the system power monitor will hold the system in reset until proper voltage levels are restored. This is a problem with the power going to the system and should be remedied by the builder.

If a display turns off for a while (several minutes) then turns back on, it is likely that it has overheated and the display's internal temperature monitoring subsystem has turned off the power supplies to prevent a meltdown. You should modify the installation to make more and/or cooler air available to the air inlets located at the back of the system.
