Having attempted to track down a recurrent hydraulic problem over the past
9 months, I too identified the culprit as a malfunctioning dump valve. The
problem manifested itself as a constant 5-6 second recycling of the
hydraulic pump after the gear had been extended AFTER a retraction. There
were no visible fluid leaks, so the concern was leaning towards something
internal: either cylinder or pump. I identified the ball valve quite by
accident, while doing some retract tests.
What bothered me the most was recognizing the fact that Lancair included in
the kit, and incorporated in the design a part that was NOT rated to
withstand the stresses placed upon it !! The ball valve is rated for 125psi
steam, and 600psi WOG (Water,Oil,Gas), and is plumbed into a hydraulic line
creating 1200psi when the gear is retracted. Considering the number of
similiar responses in the LML, I would have to say that there's a serious
design flaw that stems DIRECTLY from Lancair, and that replacement valves,
capable of handling the pressures, should be supplied to all the 320/360
kit owners free of charge by the company. I'm quite tired of being
grounded by bad directions, and shoddy parts, and I'm also quite tired of
spending money for re-engineering this plane. I hope someone at Lancair is
listening.
