Under the heading of "for what it's worth" (fwit) ..
Those of you considering replacing your tire valve stems with valves of
more robust construction may also wish to consider the valves used by
motocross racers. These valves were fairly common when I was an active
racer (many years ago), and were not too expensive as I remember. Try
any motorcycle shop for more insight.
As I recall, these valves utilize a threaded lockdown nut to secure the
base to the rim by compressing the valve itself, and forming a very
secure seal. The installation of these very heavy valves would likely
require a re-balancing of the tire/wheel assy. (probably a good idea
anyway).
