I am still not flying my 10 year old project but the
CAFE folks weighed me today and the plane is
1174 pounds dry. With a forward CG empty. I
am a very happy dude.
My tail light is unique and simple. I picked up a
50 W 12V halogen bulb from the local hardware
store for $2 and cut a up a couple of red crimp
connectors so that they only had one side that
slides onto the bulb's prongs.
I then cut a notch at the top of the rudder to fit a
small test tube from the local hobby store. there
is a bit more of a notch to hold the lip of the tube
in the forward end. the tube fits into the notch
and protrudes a bulb length from the back of the
rudder. slide the bulb into the test tube bend some
light AL to hold it in place. Two blind nuts at the
forward end and a sex bolt through the aft end
it it is quite secure. Who needs to spend $50
on a fixture?
If you need more explanation I'll have pictures
posted on my web sight soon, including the
parade through Golden Gate Park last Saturday
for the rollout party.
