All,

We have fit problems on our main gear doors for our IVP. The attached photos
show the details. The fundamental problem, I believe, is that both the doors
and fuselage are not flat in the gear door area. We have a fast build kit
and it would appear that the factory install of the gear box has caused this
"waviness". Ideally, we should have started off flat, but I am sure everyone
can relate to "shoulda, coulda, woulda". We have about 0.25 inch deviation
along the length of the door. Consequently, when installing the gear doors,
we have found that the necessary clearance gap is significantly wider at the
fore and aft ends of the doors (about 0.5 inches). It is ugly.

The kinematics of a piano hinge dictate that the hinge pin be as close to
the surface as possible to minimize gap. After applying the carbon fiber
re-enforcements to the door and filling the bottom of the airplane
(particularly at the forward end of the door) I expect that the hinge
rotation axis will be as much as 0.2 to 0.4 inches away from the surface.
This means a gap of corresponding size. Most undesirable.

Anyone have any suggestions on fixing this? BTW, straightening the fuselage
and door would be a major challenge. Thanx for any help, in advance.
