I just recently completed my weight and balance measurements and
calculations for my Lancair 360. I used an Excel file which contains a
couple of spreadsheets to simplify the calculations and Marv was kind
enough to upload this file on to his download area. Please feel free to
download this file. It also contains a picture of the aircraft showing
the various aircraft stations. After I entered my weights and
measurements, I simply printed the worksheets at 75% of the original size
and included these in my flight manual. I am confident that the
calculations are correct but if somebody finds an error, please let me
know.
Anyway, here is a brief summary of my results:
Aircraft Configuration: IO360 / CS Hartzell Prop / Header Tank / In primer
only / Stock motor mount
Behind Seatback contains: Hydraulic pump, ELT, Gell battery (Gill), Strobe
power source, flap motor.
Other accesories: Dual adjustable rudder pedals/brakes, King Nav/Com/GS,
Xpndr, EPI 800, Intercom,
audio panel, inbd gear door hydraulics.
Empty Wt: 1178 lbs. at FS 23.64"
Dist from Datum Pt to FS 0 = 37.75"
Station Distances from Datum Pt (behind spinner):
Nose Wheel: 32.40"
Header Fue;l: 45.15"
Wing Fuel: 74.75"
Main Gear: 75.25"
Pilot/Pass: 82.96"
Baggage: 114.49"
I also included a 'comparison' worksheets from various weight and balance
data I have compiled from other builders. I was a bit surprise to find
variations in the aircraft station measurements especially the distance
between the datum pt. and the nose wheel, up to a 5-inch difference
compared to what I came up with. Other station measurements and calculated
station distances seems to be within reasonable range differences.
Lastly, just for kicks, I also took measurements (both weights and
distances) with the fuselage NOT leveled and with the fuselage leveled.
The difference in the empty FS numbers was approximately 3/4" (Leveled: FS
23.64 / Not Leveled: FS22.90).
