Re: John L. Petersen's N60JP Question

I'm placing my Stormscope out on the underside (fiberglass side) of the
copilot's winglet, of course with a large ground plane.  I have one of my
NAV antennas (NAV2) on the inside of this winglet, but since I only have
one NAV (UPS SL-30), this second one is really just a spare (placed there
before the panel was conceived).  You'll need the 25' cable (from BFG) to
reach the processor (for me, placed behind the aft bulkhead).  I spoke to
BFG about this in detail, and they approve the winglet as the only sensible
location on a LIVP.  The long cable is engineered and not particularly
vulnerable to RFI (including from nearby battery cables).  Naturally, I'm
predicting the wingtip strobes will need to be turned off during Stormscope
operation, but the landing light (out there) can be left on without
interference.  It is the most quiet location on the plane for the Spherics.

I'm mounting my BFG antenna externally (facing down), but a smarter guy
with tiny fingers and more time could make the mounting internal to the
winglet.  Would be slicker.

Jeff
