Just a follow-up on my flap adjustment....here's what we did. First we adjusted the bellcrank-to-flap tie-rods to work in harmony at the fully retracted position; then disconnected the outboard tie rod at the bellcrank, extended the flap, and positioned the tie-rod to the bellcrank arm and determined that the Heim (?) bearing lined up 5/16" forward of the original hole in the bellcrank arm. Since in the retracted position the short angled portion of the bellcrank arm is (in our setup anyway) almost perpendicular to the direction of movement, but in the extended position is in line with the movement, we drilled a new hole 5/16" in from the old hole, effectively shortening the flap to bellcrank distance in the extended position, but not materially changing the distance in the retracted position. Now the flap operates quite easily. We had some concern about weakening the belllcrank, but there is 1/8" metal between the holes, and the loads will be primarily directed away from the old hole anyway. I talked with Mark at the factory and the EAA tech counselor here has checked it, and so far no one sees any problem. Thanks to you who responded to my post. Your suggestions got me thinkin'.
