John,
When you go to the Lancair web page, there is a link to AERO COOL. This is
the company that Joe Bartels & Mike Custard formed to build air conditioning
systems for the Lancair IV-P. There are pictures of the engine driven
compressor and also of the electric motor driven compressor (used in the
turbine per Joe). You will also see a typical mounting of the condensor and
evaporator. Some of the pictures you see are of Joe's airplane.
I just received my system today from Kit Components, so if you have any
specific questions, they will have to wait until I get into the
installation. Looks pretty straight forward, but I'm sure "Murphey" is in
one of the boxes somewhere! <grin>
One thing I did notice that Joe had done to his plane was to turn the
condensor 90 degrees from the way it is shown in the photos. His position
would appear to get a more direct blast of air from the NACA scoop in the
tail and provide better cooling. With the A/C, you don't connect the NACA
duct to the cabin - the only penetration in the top rear bulkhead is for the
A/C hoses.
Let me know if you have any questions.
