I just wanted to thank all who participated in our fly-in on Saturday.
Participation was excellent and everyone seemed to have a great time. There
was a lot of information exchanged about these wonderful airplanes.
People started arriving around 8 AM by auto, then the clouds lifted and the
airplanes started arriving. We had a half-dozen or so Legacies, a beautiful
320 (Bob Sinclair) and the factory flew down their Legacy, ES, and the
Propjet.
The factory pilots gave rides to prospective customers in both the Legacy
and the Propjet. Rob Logan also gave a couple of rides and executed a very
cool fly-by, uh, low approach.
After lunch, we had a series of speakers. Ron Brice gave an excellent and
informative presentation on what it's like to fly the Legacy. He talked
about his wife's concerns (which were totally allayed on their flight to Sun
N Fun), the high-performance wing, and the importance of setting up the
engine. He also fielded questions from the audience. We all enjoyed this
conversation very much. Ron, many thanks for sharing with us. We all love
your airplane!
Dave Saylor of AirCrafters in Watsonville also made a presentation. He
discussed their builder assist program, the new technology that they use for
setting up the Continental engine, and demonstrated his digital aircraft
scales. He also presented his solution for an opening window for the Legacy
(which not only adds convenience but can serve as an emergency exit). The
quality of his product is just superb. Dave, thanks for making this
presentation. His website is www.aircraftersllc.com.
Kirk Hammersmith also discussed his new company DirectToAvionics. He assured
everyone that he will still "be there" to support any Lancair avionices
installations. He also outlined a new service that his company is providing.
With this service, he will come to your airport and test your avionics
installation, perform any calibration that is needed, and provide
introductory training on the operation of the various components. This is a
great service. Kirk also made a generous contribution toward the food and
drink that were provided. Kirk, thanks for your contribution and also your
presentation. His website is www.direct2avionics.com.
I took the opportunity to annouce my new company, Legacy Innovations. I
outlined our products which include integral wingtip lights, winglets, speed
mods, etc. Don Barnes is building my web site and we expect to go live
shortly. It will be at www.legacy-innovations.com. Also, we announced that
when my Legacy is completed sometime this summer, that we would like to
assist someone in the building of their Legacy. There were several who were
interested in this service. If you know of someone who would like assistance
in building their Legacy (here in San Jose), please have them contact us.
Rick Schrameck also made a presentation about his Super Charger and his new
retractable step. We were all interested in these subjects and Rick fielded
numerous questions from the audience. Rick also donated a step as one of our
door prizes. This was a very generous gesture. Thank you, Rick! (The much
coveted step was won in the drawing by Jim Coelho.)
After the presentations, we took a break for more informal discussions and
test flights, then we held a drawing for our door prizes. We had quite a few
prizes to give out as we had a number of quite generous donations. There
were a lot of winners! As I already said, Rick donated a ($500 retail) step.
Valin & Allyson Thorn donated a very nice Legacy model. Don Barnes donated a
bottle of "Legacy Red" wine that was bottled by his family's winery.
Finally, Lancair (Kit Components) brought in a lot of goodies, including
jackets, key chains, duffle bags, hats, blankets, etc. I just want to thank
everyone for their generous contributions. The drawing was a lot of fun, and
was the highlight of the afternoon.
Don Barnes also designed a very beautiful blue T-Shirt for the Legacy. He
provided these (at cost) during the fly-in. They were all gone in short
order (over 80 shirts, I think). Don't worry, though, as this design has
been turned over to Lancair and these shirts will now be available through
them. Check them out at the Labor Day fly-in.
Due to weather and other commitments, some participants began to depart.
However, for those who hung around until dinner time, we had a sausage roast
with chips, soft drinks, and beer (for the non-flyers!), and continued to
talk about these amazing airplanes. What fun!
I should also mention that we had participants from all over the country.
While we had a lot of folks from California (as far south as San Diego), we
also had visitors from Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Oklahoma,
Nevada, Missouri, Illinois, Washington, & Texas. I would say that just goes
to show the incredible passion and interest there is in the Legacy.
That's a summary of the day's events. There was so much going on and such a
non-stop exchange of information that I probably missed a lot. (I did not
leave anyone or anything out intentionally.) In any case, we all had a great
day.
Finally, this event would not have been nearly as successful without all of
the able assitance from Scott & Lynnette Alair (co-hosts), my wife, Janet,
and Don Barnes(co-host) and his daughter Chelsea. Also, local EAA Chapter 62
generously donated the tables and chairs. Many thanks to all.
Regards,
Ron Jones

P.S. Anyone who has photo's of the day's events and would like to share
them, please email them to me. We'll post them on the web
(www.lancairlegacy.com). I have DSL, so send all that you've got!
