I just received the new 'rat-trap' springs from Nieco for the passenger
side adjustable rudder pedals. As builders who installed DUAL ADJUSTABLE
rudder pedals know, the spring pressure of the combined system causes an
unacceptable (to me at least) amount of pressure requred to move the rudder
pedals. While waiting for these new springs, I decided to install the
stock springs on the passenger side. I will remove this installation and
try out the new springs and will report here again to report the results.
Just in case the pressure is still too much, I asked Vern to send me
another set and I MAY install the same on the pilot side also. All depends
on the resulting rudder pressure results.
BTW, installing the STOCK springs (using the firewall to mount the other
end of the springs) will NOT work satisfactory when adjusting the rudder
pedals to it's foremost position. It will only work from the mid-setting
to the aft-most setting. The springs strart to sag and produces NO
pressure at all when pushed to the fore-most position.
As an aside, here's a project update:
- Total Construction Hours: 2,628!!! (and it's not yet painted!!, nor is
it flying..)
- both wings installed (but BOY, it was a bit_h**@@!! to safety
wire the OUTBD wing bolts!!)
- ailerons and flap travel movement adjusted to within limits and
secured.
- all push rod check nuts secured
- gear doors installed and secured (BTW, do not forget to safety wire the
OUTBD gear door)
- getting the aircraft ready for the weight and balance measurements!!!
Later,
Rick Argente
