I'll take a stab at this Rob. More efficient exhaust gas scavenging during
the exhaust stroke leaves more room in the cylinder for a bigger (larger)
fuel/air charge on each intake stroke. More fuel & air = more pressure =
more power. Torque and horsepower can be increased w/o an increase in RPMs.
This is a gross over simplification of course but I think it is roughly the
idea.
