I have used a Brother labeler like you get at stationary stores to make
labels and then put clear heat shrink over
them to make sure they don't peel off at a later date. Been about a year
now and my test piece hasn't bled or faded,
the heat shrink has yellowed just a bit. But still very legible. This
has been exposed to strong Arizona sun so I don't
expect a label under the dash to do any worse.
