I put the fiberax on the firewall very early and then fitted penny washers to the engine mount making up the thickness of the fiberax. Later, when everything else was attached to the firewall I removed the stainless and cut out circles around every item which was bolted to allow ordinary washers to be used to take up the depth of the fiberax. These were then put in place and taped over (with masking tape) to retain them in position when the SS was replaced. I removed the penny washers and Drilled 1/4" holes all around them the lighten them up and re-attached them in the same way. This saved quite a bit of weight. My Lancair 320 (G-FOPP) had its first engine runs last Saturday and some taxiing under its own power. I had to make some small adjustments then go home as there was nothing left to do but fly it!! I now have to get all the paperwork together for our authorities here in the UK. Everything works fine except the vacuum instruments. I shall check the regulator. I will let you all know when the great day comes. If any of you come to the UK the aircraft is based at Cranfield Airport in Bedfordshire, about 50 miles North of the centre of London. All the best from the UK. Michael Fopp
