Since I have never really had this plane in significant moisture, a couple of things occurred:

1. Lots of small paint chips at leading edge  :-(  (expected but still disappointing).

While flying back from Sun'n'Fun last year, at 10:00 pm, at 11,000 ft, at 32 deg F, I was in rain sooo heavy that I couldn't see the wing tips. I thought that I was under water. I flew in this rain for over an hour. I have flown in rain many times and not had a problem with either the paint or the VM 800. I feel the rain coming in by my feet but it is not bad enough to get wet, just a sprinkle. I will try to find out what kind of paint I have on the plane. Right now, I only know that it is some kind of epoxy. My mechanic says some type of PolyUrethan. Maybe I am just flying so slow that the rain is not effecting my paint. :-) At 11,000 I am normally indicating about 150 kts. Do you remember what your IAS was when your paint was chipped?

2. While in IMC, the low voltage light lit for about 1 or 2 minutes and the VM 800 voltage meter showed 11.5.  I believe the amp meter was still charging, at a very low rate.  Then, everything was normal.

This has never happened to me.

3.  VisionMicro fuel gauge on left wing showed erroneous values.  I topped off the tanks and it only showed 10 gallons.  Upon landing, it showed 0 gallons, but still had 10 gallons.  Today, gauges is back to normal.!!???

My fuel gages are not VisionMicro and only work 80% of the time. Thank God for 3 fuel tanks and an STCed fuel flow device. I know that it is STCed because I had to replace it once.

As far as static goes, I am afraid of any electrical buildup and have never been in any that has effected any of my instruments while flying the Lancair. Once over NYC in snow in an Arrow, I had St. Elmo's Fire. My hair stood straight out. The prop had a blue hue around it. Whenever I pointed my fingers at the windshield, 2 foot arcs of electricity connected them to the windshield. The comm radios stopped working. The whole affair was fun and only lasted about 5 minutes.
