Lots of small paint chips at leading edge=A0 :-(=A0 (expected but = still=20 > disappointing). While flying back from Sun'n'Fun last year, at 10:00 pm, at 11,000 ft,=20= at 32 deg F, I was in rain sooo heavy that I couldn't see the wing=20 tips. I thought that I was under water. I flew in this rain for over an=20= hour. I have flown in rain many times and not had a problem with either=20= the paint or the VM 800. I feel the rain coming in by my feet but it is=20= not bad enough to get wet, just a sprinkle. I will try to find out what=20= kind of paint I have on the plane. Right now, I only know that it is=20 some kind of epoxy. My mechanic says some type of PolyUrethan. Maybe I=20= am just flying so slow that the rain is not effecting my paint. :-) At=20= 11,000 I am normally indicating about 150 kts. Do you remember what=20 your IAS was when your paint was chipped? > 2. While in IMC, the low voltage light lit for about 1 or 2 minutes=20 > and the VM 800 voltage meter showed 11.5.=A0 I believe the amp meter = was=20 > still charging, at a very low rate.=A0 Then, everything was normal. This has never happened to me. > 3.=A0 VisionMicro fuel gauge on left wing showed erroneous values.=A0 = I=20 > topped off the tanks and it only showed 10 gallons.=A0 Upon landing, = it=20 > showed 0 gallons, but still had 10 gallons.=A0 Today, gauges is back = to=20 > normal.!!???=A0 My fuel gages are not VisionMicro and only work 80% of the time. Thank=20= God for 3 fuel tanks and an STCed fuel flow device. I know that it is=20 STCed because I had to replace it once. As far as static goes, I am afraid of any electrical buildup and have=20 never been in any that has effected any of my instruments while flying=20= the Lancair. Once over NYC in snow in an Arrow, I had St. Elmo's Fire.=20= My hair stood straight out. The prop had a blue hue around it. Whenever=20= I pointed my fingers at the windshield, 2 foot arcs of electricity=20 connected them to the windshield. The comm radios stopped working. The=20= whole affair was fun and only lasted about 5 minutes. -- Lorn H. 'Feathers' Olsen, MAA, DynaComm, Corp. 248-478-4301, mailto:lorn@dynacomm.ws LNC2, O-320-D1F, N31161, Y47, SE Michigan=
