Hi Folks
I've been working with Steve Myers on his acoustic insulation for his ES and
have a very positive response from the samples I sent. I think the
insulation design I came up with will save a lot of weight ultimately and be
very effective (it uses glass insulation batting and a light weight closed
cell foam barrier) but I would like to do some experiments using a portable
noise meter. By the way, you may remember the posting I did awhile back on
acoustics. I did kind of a general description of design parameters since it
appears that the existing design is quite heavy.
Would anyone out there be interested in working with me on developing an
improved acoustic insulation system? You would end up with a quieter and
probably lighter plane for the price of some rides although I can throw in
some gas money. I would end up with a better design for insulation.
Since I'm building an ES, sure, I'd rather go with one of those but actually,
probably any other model would give us the data we need.
I would need to test the baseline acoustics, see where the noise is coming
from and what the levels are at different speeds/attitudes. Then we would
have to test the plane with different types of insulation. There will be a
few hours of work here but probably not too much time (sadly) on the plane.
If you are intersted, I'd like to here from you. I live and work in the San
Francisco Bay Area and I am close to the Oakland (OAK) and Hayward (HWD)
airports. I can get to the Concord (CCR) and Livermore (LVK) airports
relatively easily also.
I design these systems for large commercial aircraft, corporate jets and h
eads of state planes but haven't had the opportunity to work on the small
planes. The company I work for (the Orcon Corporation at www.orcon.com) has
offered to let me do some development work and they will supply the blankets
but this is really my project.
