George,

I built up my ramps using foam (don't remember the type, but it was green
and very light) to get the exact shape I wanted, and then applied a couple
of bids of glass. Around the front edge I added a ring of 1/2 inch foam also
then covered with two or three bids. No cracking in over 700 hours.

I wasn't foresighted enough to add the foam to the front ring to stave off
cracking, rather, it was necessary to build up that area to match the rear
of the spinner and produce an acceptable cowl to spinner gap. Regardless, if
it's the reason mine's not cracking, I'll accept that.

If I were to do it today, I'd probably use graphite instead of glass (no
good reason other than it's stiffer) even though the glass has stood up to
the rigors of the environment just fine.
