Hi guys!
It's been more than six years since I started my Lancair 360 MKii project
and the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter all the time
(yes folks, there IS a light out there somewhere). The Lancair should
beready for flight in about two months (wishful thinking, maybe) and I
am inthe process of preparing all the stuff I'll be needing prior to
the big day, insurance for one!
Anybody have any recomendations regarding which insurance company to
use? Also, please let me know how much it cost you and what coverage it
came with. Thanks in advance.
Also, I am helping a friend find a Lancair 235. Could one of you L-235
flyers give me performance data on your current airplane (i.e. cruise,
rate of climb, etc)?
Update on project: Last weekend, I finally got hanger space to complete
my project. Working with so much space is a real treat for me since I
built this thing, believe it or not, in a one car garage. The right
wing came on yesterday and the left will be installed this weekend.
This should be another treat for me since I have never seen my Lancair
with both wings on.
Rudder/Brakes: Installing the Lancair in-flight adjustable rudder pedals
for both pilot and passenger side will result in an extremely stiff
set-up. Boy, it was REALLY STIFF!! Lancair is yet to come up with
the appropriate rat-trap springs though. In the meantime, I removed the
rat-trap springs from the passenger side and used the original springs
(mounted to the firewall) that came with the kit. Big improvement
but adjusting the pilot-side rudder pedals fore-and-aft is still a
chore, passenger side fore-and-aft movement is a delight!
Taxi Test: In an effort to try and move ahead, I decided to do some taxi
tests (sans the wings). Aside from the interesting remarks and comments
I heard over the radio (i.e. Hey, 360ZR, what's your stall speed, 500
knots?, Hey, 360ZR, are you taking the active now?), the test went
very well. Very similar to the Tiger I used to fly and it definitely
turns on a dime! Also, the engine ran very well and smooth during all
my tests. All taxi tests were done at a very slow speed.
