Hello Dan, It's not only OK to do, it's necessary. As we can see from your picture, without the bend you'd kink the cable. I sandwiched my fitting in a vice with some scrap wood to protect it along with a rod to act as a bending fulcrum. Then I just tapped the fitting lightly with a hammer until the proper bend was reached.
