First of all, the University, which owns the airport, wants to shut the airport down (to build another campus). This is the chancellors pet project. AOPA worked very hard with the NC state legislature to keep the airport open for two more years. The airport really doesn't want anyone there anymore. They kicked the flying club out about two years ago (they cited safety reasons after two crashes in a two year period). They also don't give any leases other than month to month right now. The airport manager cited "safety concerns" as why the university won't allow experimentals to have monthly leases (but we can land there and pay overnight rates... for months - explain that). Matt -- Is it possible that it's an insurance issue at the airport's end? Did the -- airport give a reason?
