I did similar wing mods which took a LONG time (not fuel related). As for a header tank 'turning a minor accident' into a major problem, I have to ask what kind of MINOR accident is going to impact your header tank?? To damage the header, you have alot worse problems than just fuel (if you're still around). ha But back to practicality, I contend that with just wing tanks and a valve, you will have LESS 'useable' fuel than with the header tank and same total capacity. Once each wing tank gets down to 5 gal, they will indicate and feel empty. I doubt you are actually going to run them empty? With the header, you can pump each tank empty and still have the reserve in the header. That's my two cents. D.
