I also wrote to the EAA and asked if there had been any
enforcement action --ever-- for a co-pilot in a Phase one experimental.
And the answer was "no, not to their knowledge".
Does it enhance safety? Is the supposed hazard based upon
weight? Distraction? Glide?
Could you say that the horrible Phase one accident rate (all
experimentals) could be reduced by having a experienced,
qualified, second pair of eyes?
I have my plane(DQ) "Exempted" for training by the EAA and FAA
but how many are willing to pay $450 hr to train in it? Are you willing to pay a
"Qualified" pilot to fly the 25-40 hours off yours before the training
begins?
You can train at RDM --IF it's available- WX is ok, etc etc-
but wouldn't it be better to fly in you OWN airplane?
