This Lancair was pretty quick already, indicating 210 mph indicated at 8,000 ft at 2,500 rpm. It pulled 21.3" of manifold pressure. The only modification the engine had was high compression pistons. I took off the big scoop on the bottom and the cross over exhaust system. I installed a flush scoop and 4 pipe exhaust system with a K&N air filter. The results are now 220 mph indicated at 8,000 ft at 2,500 rpm and 22.7-23.0" of manifold pressure. When we pushed the nose over to stay out of class B airspace, we hit 300 mph indicated in a heartbeat in a gentle dive of 1,000 ft a minute. When the owner returned to OK City from my shop outside of Denver he called me and reported that he got into a really good tail wind and indicated 225 mph at 2,500 rpm and 23" of manifold pressure. His GPS reported 247 knots!!! UNBELIEVABLE! He's happy...so am I. Getting ready to modify another this week. Anyone needing an old "ugly" scoop or wanting more info on this modification please call 303-261-4466 or email chbaviation@aol.com. I'll be relocating to Port St. Lucie, FL area in about 6 months.
