Incident Cause
Pilot put gear handle down at outer marker but failed to notice he
did not have 3 greens. Moderate to Severe turbulence and a hydraulic
leak were contributing factors.
An emergency gear dump would probably have fixed the problem. Both
hydraulic pressure gauges read about 600 lbs after the landing. The
gear handle was in the down position.
When the gear is up, pressures should be: low = 0, high = 700 - 1,000
When the gear is down, pressures should be: low = 400 - 700, high = 0
My high side pressure brought the low side above 400 lbs. At that
pressure the pump will not run with the gear handle down because the
low side is high enough.
I will write again in another week when I find out how much damage was done.
