Doesn't the requirement to have "all available
information" for the flight imply you should have current maps and
charts? I suppose the regs could be interpreted this way. Tthis is what I
was taught when a flight student.
Bob, this is certainly the fed's point of view. I
didn't mean to imply that you didn't need or shouldn't have current charts.
That said, there's damn few of us that have NEVER used a chart a little out of
date. My point is that if you don't have a current chart when the ramp check
guy asks, simply don't show him any charts at all. There is no requirement
that you show him charts.
One other thing that can help in this respect,
especially if you use mostly gps data or other electronic stuff; carry WAC
charts. They cover twice the area and expire half as often.
