I can't cite a regulation to back this up but I
have been told, by a flight instructor, that carrying out of date
charts can be worse than no charts at all. I'm thinking that the
real issue is if you have some sort of incident you don't want the
feds to find out of date charts in your plane. Probably makes it
easier to pin something on you.
