Firstly the whole glare shield is a dog's breakfast, if it is
not a wet noodle as it is so flexible. My plane is finished except
fpr it and I will do finish the glare shield as the last thing. It is
difficult to fit at the edges near the gas springs and it is so floppy that you
are constantly tying to work with moving dimensions. All of which is no
help to you at all, so I am no help at all there!
I have had none of the problems you list with getting the
radio stack to fit. I am sending three photos of the panel. Two in
the construction phase and one of the finished panel. My audio panel is at
the top of the stack which helps the clearance. I tried to keep the longest unit
(NAV/COM) down in the stack to help the clearance. I will measure the
distance from the the firewall to the panel tomorrow as I have a feeling
that a small movement there helps a lot with the clearance and I could have
moved it. My memory does not confirm it but I believe I moved the panel
for clearance reasons.
More tomorrow
