Subject: Paper Maps Anyone?

Guys,

Forgive this being slightly off the Lancair specific topic.  With the
tremendous progress in the world of GPS's and their ability to be
updated, I was wondering if the Feds have said anything regarding paper
chart requirements.  Specifically, I update my iPAQ every 30 days and
update TFR's the day I go flying.  This seems like a great way to go.
However, I have a few old (possibly out dated) paper charts that I carry
as a security blanket of sorts.

So.... Are current paper charts required when carrying a GPS that has a
current data base?

And....Are there any adverse affects to having an out of date chart on
board?

Any thoughts on the FAA's current view of such behavior would be greatly
appreciated.
