Thanks for sharing that difficult story. IMHO, carrier-qualified fighter-jocks are about the best pilots there are. So if someone with your level of experience can have that sort of mishap, it speaks volumes about the caution, training and currency required to manage some of these "high performance" kitplanes. Best of luck with the rebuild.
(Wonder why debongers aren't a factory option, or even included in the kit?? Could that be a manifestation of the NIH Syndrome?)
