I had a prop strike on a badly botched landing (don't ask!).  The prop shop couldn't find replacement blades and Hartzell wanted way too much new

I had the same problem in July. A hard landing bend my prop.

Dan Olsen sold me his new, 13 year old prop, and I sent him a new one from Hartzell through Lancair. I had the prop overhauled and am very happy with the results.

The last time this happened to me, I accepted a used (rebuilt?) prop. I was never happy with the prop. I needed 3/4 of an inch of washers to balance it. The old prop's blade was 4 inches across at the tip. My new one is 5 inches. With the new blade, I am cruising about 10 knots faster. Scott Krueger is having the same problem with his used prop.

After my hard landing, my mechanic and Avemco required that I have:
  1)  Prop and Hub replaced. If blades are replaced, so should be the hub.
  2)  Engine torn down. We found marginal exhaust guides and replaced them.
  3)  Prop Governor rebuilt. Another required item for replaced blades.

If you don't buy a new prop or get one from someone on the list. Good Luck.

To anyone on the list holding on to an old (new) prop, talk to Lee about a trade.

Sincerely,
