Since there is no definition for private (permission only) landing strips, the Kootanei County Planning Department insisted that the piece of asphalt be called an "Access Road" when they issued the permit.

The misinformation quoted here got it's start when Brent's wife wouldn't let a local reporter take pictures of the crash before the police had roped it off.  Apparently reporter then went to the county and asked if the area was zoned for an airport (public use) and was told that it is not. The story appeared in the local paper and apparently AvWeb picked it up.

Frankly I am surprised to see AvWeb publish something like this.  I had always considered AvWeb to be a balanced aviation news service, not a local rag looking for an excuse to complain about those deadly airplanes and reckless airplane owners.  An e-mail of complaint to the editors of editors AvWeb is in order.
