Dan,

you may want to use 316 stainless (not 304) for panel fasteners if you can't
find brass. It is strong, tough and many standard fastener parts are made
out of 316. It is almost completely nom-magnetic. I have 316 socket head
machine screws in my panel and I can't get my compass to move at all passing
a bunch of screws right next to it. And they look cool(the real reason I use
them).

be careful not to use 304 in its place. Once cold worked, which most parts
like that, it becomes magnetic. 316 will never become magnetic even after
full work hardening.

Scott

Do folks use non-magnetic (e.g., brass) nutplates for instrument panel
applications like fastening panels to the sub-panel?  If so, where do you
buy these critters?<
