It is strong, tough and many standard fastener parts are made out of 316. It is almost completely nom-magnetic. I have 316 socket head machine screws in my panel and I can't get my compass to move at all passing a bunch of screws right next to it. And they look cool(the real reason I use them). be careful not to use 304 in its place. Once cold worked, which most parts like that, it becomes magnetic. 316 will never become magnetic even after full work hardening.
