Ditto Scott.  I shortened the elevator bellcrank arm also.  The control harmony is still not perfect but it is certainly not scary.

My good friend and building mentor in California, Bob Sinclair, has the original tail.  Members of the EAA chapter out there pleaded with him to cut off the horizontal tail and replace it with the new, longer tail.  They showed up in his shop with a saw as the story goes.  They tried to convince him that he would certainly die if he flew that dangerous configuration, and none of them were Lancair builders/flyers.  But he kept the faith, loves his airplane and is quite healthy, and we know what a splendid job he did on that airplane.  George Shattuck
