Eugene,
Ray Allen Co (formerly MAC) makes a flap position indicator that looks
like their LED trim indicators.  It connects to a small sending unit that
has a rod that slides in and out about 1.2".  It was the very last thing I
put into my plane before it flew last month, so I don't have a picture of
how I installed the sender, but I can get one.
I just put an adel clamp on the flap torque tube with a small piece of
angled aluminum screwed into it that moves fore and aft as the torque tube
rotates through it's travel.  I screwed the sending unit to a hinge mounted
a piece of 1/8" phenolic that was bonded to the rear bulkhead for the spar
and  then attached the sliding rod to the piece if angle on the clamp.  I
needed the sending unit on a hinged mount so it could move up and down a bit
as the rod moved in and out of it.  It took a few stabs to get the proper
attach position on the piece of angle that translated into 1.2" of travel
from full up to full down flaps, but it works great.
Let me know if this interests you and I'll take some pictures of the
installation and e-mail them to you.
