The question is, why would you want to use automotive oil?  Yes, automotive oil costs less, but compared to the cost of your engine the difference is insignificant.  Using the most appropriate oil available, i.e. one that has been developed specifically for your engine, is a darn good investment.  The engine I plan to put in my Legacy will set me back around $30K.  Saving $20 to $25 per oil change is not worth putting that engine at risk.  Are you wondering if the current crop of automotive oils might be superior to aircraft oil in some respects?  Seems doubtful, but I'd want to research what the experts have to say before making a positive statement.
