The rudder leading edge should be slightly wider than the trailing edge of

Please quantify "slightly wider". I was under the impression that level (same width at leading and trailing edge) was ok as long as the interface gap was small (<1.5mm). In fact, I closed my elevator/HS and rudder/VS at the factory quick build shop and I was instructed to build them that way. Did I misunderstand?
