The reason we discontinued the GearMinder was for purely economical reasons. For the cost of goods, labor and selling price, it was not a financially rewarding venture. If I had completely though through the financial aspects of the project before embarking on it, I would never have offered it for sale. However, since it was out there, was fulfilling a need, and people were buying it, we kept producing it. The final straw was when one of the ICs being used in it was discontinued. That
necessitated a re-layout of the board and some mechanical aspects, which requires an investment of time and money. Considering all the other projects we were involved in, that did not seem like a good business decision for us. A major part in the decision to discontinue the the GearMinder was the fact that several other products, including the Sierra Flight Systems EFIS and Jim Frantz's AOA, provide the same functionality. There was also a very similar product that had just come out for Mooneys.
As much as I would like to suggest that you buy a SFS system instead (my involvement with them is no secret), the close to 2 orders of magnitude price difference keeps me from suggesting that. What I would suggest instead is that for a little more than what the GearMinder would have cost you, you can buy Jim's AOA system that will provide all the essential functionality of the GearMinder as well as bringing safety up to a whole new dimension. And I say that, having absolutely no financial interest in, or involvement with, Jim's AOA product.
