You have the high energy brakes and the pads do come off the studs. It is
how you change them. This improvement lets you change pads without a
special rivet tool. Don't worry, once installed they will stay put.
I am not sure what you mean by "the mounting hub on the axle spacing was
wrong" but the caliper pins should slide through
the bushings
(although they may be stiff at first).
