Rick,
As an additional note, I did not investigate the root cause of the
failure to any great extent.  Was it a design issue- too little, too
much compression, bad batch of washers, dimensional differences between
old Aerotek and current cylinders, damage during installation(no
lubrication), etc?  I am curious how many other damaged washers may have
been discovered.   The two bad washer I replaced were both original
units from Aerotek, purchased in '95, in use since '97 and
failed/discovered in '01 (~500 hours).  Unfortunately, or fortunately,
the washer can function normally, even when damaged, as long as a leak
path from high to low pressure is not created.

Then it only makes sense that this particular washer should be included
with
the rebuilt kit...

At least now, thanks to you, we now know where these washers can be
readily
purchased.
