I have been flying a Lancair 290 without a header tank for 7 years and I have
never had a problem with un porting. I added a bulkhead at the BL 60 with a
flapper valve that allows fuel into the sump but not back out similar to how
Lancair does the Lancair IV. I also added a bulkhead about 6 inches back from
the rear of the Main spar and parallel to the spar to keep the fuel from
unporting with the nose pitched down. I did not feel the need for a flop tube
and I still dont think that it is necessary unless you intend to do negative G
manuvers. I have tested this design down to 1 gal without unporting.
